Do You Need to Know How to Swim to Ride a Jet Ski?

Por alquilarmotodeagua.es · Actualizado en 2026 · Lectura ~5 min

Una pregunta muy habitual en primera vez, familias y grupos. El chaleco ayuda mucho, pero no sustituye al sentido común ni al criterio del operador.

The short answer

To drive or ride as a passenger it is advisable to know how to swim or, at least, feel comfortable floating with a life jacket. Some companies may require it explicitly for safety.

The life jacket is mandatory, but if you panic in water or cannot stay calm, let them know before booking.

What role the life jacket plays

The life jacket keeps you afloat and must be well fitted. Wearing it loose or picking any size will not do. For children, the fit is even more important.

If you are afraid of the water

Choose a short guided route, calm sea, a morning slot and tell the instructor. Do not start with free rental or a long route if you are not sure.

For a first outing, see jet ski for beginners or 20 minutes if you want something very short.

Frequently asked questions

¿El chaleco sustituye a saber nadar?

Not entirely. The life jacket helps you float, but you should be able to stay calm and follow instructions if you fall in.

¿Puede subir un niño que no sabe nadar?

It depends on the operator, age, size, life jacket and sea conditions. You should always confirm before booking.

What do I do if I fall off?

Stay calm, keep the life jacket properly on, make yourself visible and follow the instructor's instructions.
