Preparing the outing well makes everything flow and stops you losing riding time over a slip-up. The good news is you need to bring very little: the safety gear is provided by the company and the rest fits in a small bag. Here is the complete checklist for a jet ski outing.
The essentials
- Swimsuit on from home, to avoid wasting time changing.
- Water-resistant sunscreen: at sea the sun hits twice as hard.
- Towel and dry clothes for afterwards.
- Water and a snack if the outing is long.
- ID card, NIE or passport and, if there are minors, the authorization. Review the documents needed.
- Sunglasses with a strap and a cap, if the sun bothers you.
What the company provides
You don't have to buy any of this: a reputable operator gives it to you at the base.
- Life jacket, approved and in your size (mandatory).
- Wetsuit when the water is cool (sometimes for a small extra).
- Safety briefing and the area's instructions.
If you have questions about sizes, weight or passengers, see the life jacket, size and max weight guide.
For the photos
If you want a memento, bring a waterproof case with a float for your phone or a GoPro with a mount, but use it only when stopped and confirm beforehand that the operator allows it. Many offer a photo package: you have it in phone or GoPro on a jet ski.
What NOT to bring
- Loose valuables (watches, jewellery): leave them at the base or at home.
- Your phone in a pocket or in your hand without a float case: if it falls, you won't get it back.
- No alcohol before the outing: for safety and because the operator may not let you go out.
With that covered, all that's left is to enjoy it. If it's your debut, take a look at the first-time guide and the safety rules.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to bring my own life jacket?
No. The life jacket is provided by the company, approved and in your size. It must fit well; if it doesn't appear in the booking information, confirm it beforehand.
Can I bring my phone to take photos?
Only with a waterproof case with a float and using it when stopped, if the operator allows it. In your hand or pocket it is easy to lose. Many companies offer a photo package.
Do I need a wetsuit?
It depends on the water temperature and the area. In many destinations it isn't needed in summer; when the water is cool, the company usually provides one.
