What does no license actually mean?

No-license rental does not mean unrestricted navigation. Under Spain's consolidated Royal Decree 259/2002, a user without a qualification may ride in an authorised circuit or take part in a regulated group excursion run by an authorised operator.

Following the update made by Royal Decree 1188/2025, an individual no-license excursion is different: the qualified instructor operates the jet ski and the customer is the passenger.

When do you need a license?

You need a valid qualification for private use, day rental or open navigation under your own responsibility. A Spanish navigation license or another recognised title must include the relevant jet ski privileges.

Before paying, ask the operator whether you will drive in a circuit, join a group excursion, ride as a passenger with the instructor, or rent for free navigation. Those labels determine whether you are actually allowed to operate the craft.

Prices depend on destination, season, route length and whether the price is per jet ski or per person. Most tourist rides are priced per jet ski, usually with up to two people sharing.

• 30 minutes: commonly around 50-90 EUR per jet ski, higher in peak season or premium islands.
• 1 hour: commonly around 90-160 EUR per jet ski, depending on destination.
• Group rides: many operators offer better rates from 4 or more jet skis.

Practical tips before booking

• Ask whether the price is per jet ski or per person.
• Confirm maximum passengers per jet ski, usually 2 and sometimes 3 depending on the model.
• Arrive 20-30 minutes early for documents, briefing and equipment.
• Bring swimwear, towel, sunscreen and sunglasses with a strap.
• Do not drink alcohol before the ride; operators can refuse departure for safety reasons.
• Book early in July and August, especially in Ibiza, Mallorca, Tenerife, Costa Brava and Costa del Sol.
